The last week has seen a turn of events that resemble those of a soap opera but as Will stated, “Bowls is the winner!” Collectively we are pleased that Merriott have sought reinstatement to the League. This is due to the participating members of their team who were not party to any discussion on the subject of Merriott’s possible withdrawal, an action that caught them completely by surprise.

However, there is one change. The Tri Cup fixture for this year was not rearranged to incorporate Crewkerne’s late addition. We need to consider a new format for next season. As a result of the last weeks events, Merriott will not be present on the green on August 18th but Crewkerne will.

All fixtures for 2024 have been agreed. The only change from last year is to start matches earlier at 6pm. This years Triangular Cup will be hosted by Merriott.

The guidelines of the league provide an unequalled level of access to competitive bowling as you are likely to find in terms of inclusive participation. Unlimited substitutions or playing structures, permitting mentoring during the matches, allowing flexibility to play as a pair if player availability is an issue. In particular less confident bowlers benefitted from the supportive nature of the environment, i.e. it didn’t matter if some form of etiquette was lacking or knowledge of the rules.
