On a very pleasant Monday evening late in August, sufficient daylight existed to complete our inaugural cup competition. It was played on three rinks with each of the three founding clubs playing each other.

It was great to see familiar faces participating from the previous league games. The competition recovered from the loss of Chard bowling club just prior to the commencement of the season, by providing us with an opportunity to all get together for our one off Tri Cup competition.

Ilminster won on both of their rinks to add the Tri Cup to their league honours. Throughout the season they regularly rotated more than nine or ten plus bowlers per fixture. In the adjacent photo a serious looking Chardstock Jim overcame Simon’s Merriott rink. The cup match reflected the friendly and supportive intention’s of the league, to provide a supportive developmental environment for new and less seasoned bowlers.

The closest contest of the evening proved to be between Ilminster and Merriott, at the eight end before Ilminster made substitutions Merriott were ever so slightly ahead, so Ilminster made a great recovery to win the contest. There were some moments of exceptional bowling, none more so than on this rink

Congratulations to Ilminster on winning, our thanks to them for hosting the occasion, everyone enjoyed the chips. Thank you to participants from Chardstock and Merriott who brought along an array of food offerings we could pick from. Thank you to Team Managers and other supportive club members for their assistance behind the scenes, especially with regard to refreshments. We look forward to seeing each other again next year. Below are pictures of the Ilminster team with their season’s honours.
