2025 Season

On Thursday 23rd October Will hosted at Ilminster representatives of each SSBL club, South Petherton were accepted unaminously into the league. The points system of the league will remain the same except for dropping inclusion points, it is a redundant feature as in every match, each club has always managed to field two triples rinks. Next year 6 points are available, 2pts for winning a rink and two for the overall winner. Next years cup will remain a one off, end of season finisher, with all five clubs attending, playing two triples rinks each. The format will be in two halves providing an opportunity for everyone to play against each other over 8 ends if daylight allows. To speed up the final, it was agreed that no mentoring will be allowed on the green. On the point of mentoring we agreed on two main principles, it should be as invisible and inaudible as possible to minimise potential inteference with bowlers in possession of the rink. We confirmed that the only expectation on hosting a league match is to offer a drink at the conclusion of the fixture. We confirmed our commitment to utiising the league for development, though we discussed criteria for inclusion we agreed to not make stipulations for participation allowing each club to select according to their own development criteria. Though there were strong opinions expressed and not always in complete agreement, we nevertheless were able to achieve consensus or unanimous outcomes. Rool on 2026!

Monday evening 18th August @ Chardstock. On a grey night the visibility held firm allowing us to conclude the season with a very close finish. Similar to last year only four shots divided all three teams. Peter from Ilminster by his own admission was finding the length a challenge but on his rink’s final end he bowled two woods very close to the jack, winning the end by two shots. Meanwhile on rink 3 Chardstock required four shots to tie the match. Chardstock held two shots, Sam from Crewkerne visited the head and mulled over how to turn two down into four up. Unfortunately for his side he knocked up a Chardstock bowl giving Rob’s team a three shot advantage that sadly he was unable to increase on his final bowl. So Congratulations to Ilminster who retained the double of League and Cup winners 2025.

Our thanks to Chardstock for hosting the match, to all the seasons participants and for last nights food contributors.
